Landing Craft, Air Cushion 81 (LCAC-81), from Assault Unit Craft Five (ACU-5), US Fleet Activities, Sasebo, Japan, glides onto a Gogu beach for the D-Day Mobile Fuel Distribution System (DMFDS) concept demonstration in support of FOAL EAGLE 2000. The DMFDS is a Force Warfighting Lab (FWL) sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) funded project which demonstrates new techniques in the first ever transfer of fuel from the sea to land. Foal Eagle is the largest Joint and Combined field training drill conducted annually in South Korea, running from Oct. 25th to Nov. 3rd. About 25,000 US troops will take part in the drill, including active duty, Reserve and National Guard troops from ...

The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
