Marines who lost their lives in an MV-22 Osprey crash during training were represented by All-purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment (A.L.I.C.E) packs which were decorated with flowers and M-16A2 service rifles during a memorial service in honor of the Marines. The memorial was held at the 53 area San Mateo grinder at Camp Pendleton, California. The families and friends were on hand, as well as the Commandant of the Marine Corps and other high ranking officials. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
