Family and friends of the crew of the guided missile frigate USS STARK (FFG 31) crowd the pier as the STARK returns to its home port.  The STARK has just completed sea trials that followed a stay at the Ingalls Shipbuilding facility in Pascagoula, Mississippi, for repairs to the extensive damage caused by two Iraqi-launched Exocet anti-ship missiles that struck the ship while it was on patrol in the Persian Gulf in May 1987.  Thirty-seven crewmen were killed in the explosion and fires

The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
