A UH-1N Huey helicopter from the 36th Rescue Flight, Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, practices hoist training in the mountains of eastern Washington. The unit supports the Air Force's Survival School training program through vector training, hoist instruction and parachute demonstrations. The 36th Rescue Flight also assists local authorities in recoveries of injured or missing persons. Since 1971, the unit has saved 532 lives on missions ranging from medical evacuations to hoisting severely injured mountain climbersin hazardous conditions. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
