Ruin of the $7,000,000 City Hall by earthquake and fire. The building was a monument of poor workmanship, materials and design. The U.S. Geological Survey Report on the San Francisco Earthquake of April 18,1906. (Possible photograph by Frank Soule) On April 18, 1906 at 5:15 AM a quake of 8.25 on the Richter scale hit San Francisco. Greater destruction came from the fires afterwards.
