Using the cover of smoke grenades, STAFF Sergeant (SSGT) Aaron Lewis, USAF, of the 305th Security Forces, McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, attempts to penetrate the perimeter of a base in a direct frontal assault, firing his Colt M-16A2 5.56mm Assault Rifle. SSGT Lewis, a member of the OPFOR (Opposing Forces) played his part during a MOBILITY EXERCISE (MOBEX). The MOBEX designed to test the ability of the Security Forces to establish and defend an Entry Control Point (ECP) on an air base. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
