When news was brought to camp, all soldiers chipped in to give out of their own supplies of hard tack, bully beef and bread, but that was not enough. One of the soldiers volunteered to nurse the dying mother and her little girl. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
