This tree, with markings made out of bullets, was discovered by 2nd Platoon, B Company, 9th Engineers, on a hill outside the town of Plesheim, in the Republic of Srpska, during Operation JOINT GUARD. On December 20, 1996, the Implementation Force (IFOR) mission came to a conclusion and the 1ST Infantry Division was selected to continue serving in Bosnia as part of the new Stabilization Force (SFOR). This decision brought to close the peace mission of Operation JOINT ENDEAVOR and has been the beginning for the current operation known as Operation JOINT GUARD. JOINT GUARD will continue to monitor the militaries of the former warring factions and provide a climate of stability

Members of the Haitian Swat Team rode alongside the Haitian Coast Guard, in a small patrol baot, as they prepared to replace (Not Shown) members of 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry, 1ST Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division who successfully "seized" the chief seaport of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, during a training mission. The mock siege also included members of the US Coast Guard. This training mission was part of the Contingency Readiness exercise taking place in Haiti, 12 April 1997

The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
