A display of US Army (USA) World War Two (WWII) souvenirs, including a Bronze Star Medal, belonging to WWII Veteran Sergeant (SGT) Edward Francis Sweet, displayed during his Medal Presentation Ceremony, held at Vandenberg Air Force Base (AFB), California (CA). The Bronze Star was awarded to Sweet 60 years after his service where he deployed over 1800 days as a radio operator with the 3rd Infantry Division. Sweet's Division was responsible for the eradication of the Nazi Army out of France as well as the defeat of the last ground soldiers in Southern Germany

MAJ. Thomas A. Sweet, instructor navigator in a KC-135R Stratotanker from the 380th Air Refueling Wing (ARW), 310th Air Refueling Squadron (AREFS), Plattsburgh AFB, NY, navigates the aircraft to a designated refueling track where they will refuel a C-5 aircraft during Operation Restore Hope II. The primary mission of the 380th ARW (Deployed) is to provide air refueling support over the Atlantic to in-bound (going into Mogadishu, Somalia) and homeward-bound C-5 aircraft, which are ferrying supplies, troops and equipment. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
