M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks, of 1ST Tank Battalion, 1ST Marine Division stage for the assault on Red Beach, during the 50th Anniversary of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign , aboard Camp Pendleton, California. This fierce, bloody battle resulted in 15,000 allied casualties (most of them men of the 1ST Marine Division). 2,500 were killed in action, 5,000 were wounded in action, and 7,500 suffered severe frostbite and cold injuries. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
