F-16 Fighting Falcon aircrafts lined up at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. During a two-week course at Luke Air Base, Arizona, flight surgeons (not shown) go through the paces to understand what it's like to fly in an F-16. They learn about the weapons, radar and stresses that a flighter pilot deals with during a normal flying day. Luke has more than 200 F-16s assigned, with the two-seat F-16D (shown) being used for the training. This image was used in the April 2000 AIRMAN Magazine article "Top Knife."

A MC-130 Combat Shadow tanker and two HH-60G Pavehawk helicopters from the 129th Rescue Wing fly in formation over San Francisco, California. The mission of the 129th is to train and be prepared to perform its wartime mission of combat search and rescue anywhere in the world. Its personnel and aircraft locate and recover aircrew and non-aircrew personnel from both enemy-held and friendly territory and seas. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt.
