Two hundred and fifty Gordon and McLean Highlanders brought Fifth Avenue to its street windowns to view the passing of the Scotsman as they swung down the thoroughfare headed by their bagpipers. They were the chief attraction of British Recruiting Week beginning July 16, 1917. A big rally on Friday night at Madison Square Garden wound up the weeks activities. Lord Northcliffe and James M. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
