US Army Reserve, Sergeant (SGT) Thomas of the 304th Psychological Operation (PSYOPS) Unit hands a Stabilization Force (SFOR) publication to a boy in the town of Rudo, inside the Republic of Serbska, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Thompson's job is to gain rapport with the locals and assist them with basic needs like school books, supplies and often the connection of a phone line in rural villages. In addition, the unit passes out a monthly world event magazine, a DC Superman comic book outlining mine awareness and several informative voting guides for the September municipal elections. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA keeps those Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year.
