Rempt (left), Superintendent of the US Naval Academy, and USN Captain (CAPT) Bruce Grooms (right), Commandant Captain, congratulate Midshipman 4th Class Brian Richards at the conclusion of the 99th annual Herndon Climb, at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland (MD). Midshipmen work together to climb to the top of the 21-foot gray obelisk, (which is covered in more than 200 pounds of lard) and retrieve a white plebe dixie-cup hat. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
