On May 23, 2001, President George W. Bush spoke to and hosted a re-enlistment ceremony for one hundred US service members from all five armed services in the White House East Room. President Bush pledged support to the troops stating "I have promisednever to take you for granted. As long as I live under this roof, our country and our military will be prepared to meet any challenge the future many bring." Accompanying the president are Secretary of Defense Donald H. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
