160901-N-LD343-015 SAN PEDRO, California (Sept. 1, 2016) – Coast Guard members assigned to Coast Guard Base Los Angeles/Long Beach talk about the meal they are preparing at the TV pre-recording of the inaugural cooking competition "Galley Wars" held on the Battleship Iowa Memorial during the inaugural Los Angeles Fleet Week. This year the Coast Guard competes with amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), mine countermeasure ship USS Champion (MCM 4), and Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108). Fleet week offers the public an opportunity to tour ships, meet Sailors, Marines, and members of the Coast Guard and gain a better understanding of how the sea service support the national defense of the United States and freedom of the seas.
