A port side view of the burning Egyptian ferry boat AL-QUAMAR AL-SAUDI AL-MISRI in the early morning hours before dawn as seen from the destroyer USS BRISCOE (DD-977). The ferry boat sent out a distress call after the ship's boiler had blown up and set the ship hopelessly on fire. The call to abandon ship was also given. The USS BRISCOE was first on the scene and moved in quickly to rescue survivors from the ship. Several survivors can be seen climbing down jacobs ladders at the ferry's fantail
