ARABIAN SEA (Feb. 17, 2019) U.S. Marine Col. Michael J. Perez, the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit commanding officer, welcomes Col. Jay Holtermann, Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Central Command commanding officer, aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). SPMAGTF-CR-CC staff visited the Kearsarge in an effort to strengthen relationships across 5th Fleet’s area of operations. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
