AT SEA (September 12, 2016) – Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Francom, a special amphibious reconnaissance corpsman with Maritime Raid Force, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, fires a test simulation round from his M45A1 service pistol from the boat deck of the USS Somerset (LPD 25) prior to a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure mission executed off the coast of San Clemente Island, California, Sept. 12, 2016. The VBSS mission was done in conjunction with the 11th MEU’s Certification Exercise, the final exercise in it’s pre-deployment training cycle, which is meant to evaluate its ability to conduct expeditionary operations while deployed to the Pacific and Central Commands’ areas of operation.
