Kelly, a native of Cape Carteret, N.C., received the Bronze Star Medal with a combat distinguishing device for his service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Kelly was the air fires officer at Marine Special Operations Company H, Special Operations Task Force-West, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan, from October 2013 through June 2014. Among other accomplishments, Kelly was recognized for his actions as a forward air controller in a clearing operation over Helmand province, March 29, 2014.
