Coast Guard Cutter Sherman Returns Home
Summary
ALAMEDA, Calif. (Dec. 23, 2008) Chief Petty Officer Gary Reed, an operations specialist assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Sherman homeported here, embraces his young daughter, Samantha, and his wife, Sara, after being underway on a patrol of the Bering Sea for two months. The Sherman is 378 feet long and one of 12 high-endurance cutters in the Coast Guard. It is capable of conducting law enforcement missions, homeland security patrols, and search and rescue.
