CARIBBEAN SEA (Jan. 20, 2005)--A boarding team from the new Coast Guard Cutter Shamal prepares to board a smuggling go-fast they stopped 150 miles south of the Dominican Republic while working in tandem with the Dom. Rep. Navy and a Coast Guard jet from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass. Shamal is a 179-foot Patrol Coastal recently leased from the U.S. Navy to provide resource support to the Coast Guard while it increases its inventory of 87-foot patrol boats, the 110-foot patrol boat conversion and develops the Deepwater Maritime Patrol Coastal platform.
