Shelby Dawson on receiving his Purple Heart for his actions during the battle of Guam on July 26, 1944, during his Purple Heart ceremony on January 6, 2018 at St. Laurence Church in Southlake TX. TThe original Purple Heart, designated as the Badge of Military Merit, was established by George Washington, Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, on August 7, 1782.
