Friends and family members of Master Labor Contractors

description

Summary

Friends and family members of Master Labor Contractors listen to a commencement speech April 29 during the Master Labor Contractor appreciation day commencement at the theater on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. “We cannot do our jobs without the help of our Japanese counterparts,” said Col. Thomas A. Pecina, Camp Commander of Camp Foster. During MLC appreciation day, MLCs brought their friends and families on base to observe their work spaces, meet co-workers and enjoy restaurants on base. MLC appreciation day is celebrated to recognize the ongoing partnership and alliance between Japan and the United States. MLCs are Japanese workers on U.S. military bases in Japan, hired under bilateral labor contracts, the Master Labor Contract and the Indirect Hire Agreement. In 2016, the U.S. military employed 3,087 Japanese workers on Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Okinawa. One thousand six hundred and forty two of those employees work on Camp Foster, according to Pecina.
