American Red Cross - Refugees - American Red Cross in North Russia. American soldiers and some children who they found starving near Archangel. When news was brought to camp, all soldiers chipped in to give out of their own supplies of hard tack, bully beef and bread, but that was not enough. One of the soldiers volunteered to nurse the dying mother and her little girl. Another soldier was sent at once to American Red Cross headquarters, a trip of an hour and a half from this small outpost camp, for expert help and a trained nurse.
