Weldon Spring, Mo., June 5, 2013 -- A home struck by a tornado on the evening of May 31, 2013 tore away the living room wall and roof. FEMA and the State of Missouri are doing Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDA) in the areas hit by a tornado. PDA is a joint assessment used to determine the magnitude and impact of an event's damage. The State uses the results of the PDA to determine if the situation is beyond the combined capabilities of the State and local resources and to verify the need for supplemental Federal assistance. US Army (USA) Soldiers from the Stabilization Forces (SFOR) Sarajevo participated in Operation Smile, a voluntary program designed to bring happiness to the children of Bosnia during Operation JOINT FORGE. [Hurricane Dolly] Edinburg,TX, July 30, 2008 -- Hildalgo County Emergency Management Coordinator, Tony Pena, demonstrates, on the county map, the next area where FEMA's Federal Coordinating Officer's Special Assistant, Gerry Stolar will take his team to view damages and determine the extent of impact those damages had on the county following Hurricane Dolly. FEMA works closely with the state and local officials to determine eligibility for Federal assistance prior to a declaration from the President.

An aerial view, two days later, of the impact point on the Pentagon where the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77, a Boeing 757-200 entered, breaking up in the process. Shortly after 8 AM on September 11, 2001 in an attempt to frighten the American people, five members of Al-Qaida, a group of fundamentalist Islamic Muslims, hijacked Flight 77 from Dulles International Airport just outside Washington DC. About 9:30 AM they flew the aircraft and 64 passengers into the side of the Pentagon. The impact destroyed or damaged four of the five "rings," in that section, that circle the building.
