Navy Chief Petty Officer Daniel Sherman, a builder
Summary
Navy Chief Petty Officer Daniel Sherman, a builder with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11, holds a montage representing Chief Petty Officer Raymond Border’s work and devotion to his country. Border was killed by a roadside bomb, Oct. 19, 2011, as he was inspecting a route for a convoy in Paktika province, Afghanistan. Border was a builder with NMCB 74, based in Gulfport, Miss., working with a provincial reconstruction team in Afghanistan. Sherman’s participation was part of the Navy chiefs’ 119th birthday celebration, April 1. NMCB 11 currently operates out of Camp Krutke and hosted the celebration. The framed artwork will be hung in a special place inside the chiefs' mess.
