On Sept. 11, 2004 retired Czech Republic COL. L. Ulehla gives a salute after laying a wreath of flowers during the 60th Anniversary of the Air Battle over the Ore Mountains Celebration, held to honor both the German and American Airmen killed over the skies of Kovarska, Czech Republic on September 11, 1944. During the war Mr. Ulehla fled what was then Czechoslovakia to the United Kingdom where he was a Pilot in the British Royal Air Force and fought in Africa.
