Deployed as Task Force Iron Knights, 2-501st Avn. Regt. was the aviation asset for Joint Forces Command - United Assistance in support of Operation United Assistance. Soldiers disassembled the helicopters at the 101st Sustainment Brigade’s (Lifeliners) Division Support Area near the Port of Buchanan, in Buchanan, Liberia. The 101st Sustainment Brigade is the logistical element in support of Operation United Assistance. Operation United Assistance is a Department of Defense operation in Liberia to provide logistics, medical training and engineering support to U.S. Agency for International Development-led efforts to contain the Ebola virus outbreak in western Africa.
