Rct. Darien Riley, 19, Platoon 2062, Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, strikes a pad during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program endurance course June 20, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits performed a series of strikes before sprinting to the next station. MCMAP is used to help produce better physically and morally strong Marines. Riley is from Riverhead, N.Y., and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 2, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
