Description: Earth observations below vertical tail and orbital maneuvering system (OMS) pods and shadowed payload bay (PLB) with (front to back) Shuttle Pallet Satellite (SPAS) 01, Materials Experiment Assembly (MEA) mounted on Office of Space and Terrestrial Applications (OSTA) 2 Mission Peculiar Equipment Support System (MPESS), spacecraft sunshield closed over thermal-covered airborne support equipment (ASE), and remote manipulator system (RMS) arm stowed on port side longeron include: Mexico, Yucatan. Get away special (GAS) canisters mounted on starboard longeron and on port side longeron appear in foreground. GAS canister lid is open on G305 - Space Ultraviolet Radiation Environment (SURE) instrument developed by the Naval Research Laboratory.
