Sailors from Navy Cargo Handling Battalion ONE (NCHB

description

Summary

Sailors from Navy Cargo Handling Battalion ONE (NCHB 1), prepare to lift the U.S. Army's small tug Scholarie (ST 905) from the Military Sealift Command large sealift cargo ship USNS Medonca (T-AKR 303), during Alaska Shield 2014 as part of Joint Logistics Over The Shore (JLOTS) operations in Anchorage, Alaska, March 27, 2014. The U.S. Army has several small tugs that can transport supplies to shore when port facilities are inoperative, degraded or otherwise unavailable. Alaska Shield is a U.S. government, State of Alaska, and local disaster response exercise modeled after the 1964 earthquake that devastated Anchorage and surrounding areas. NCHB 1 is the Navy's only active duty cargo handling battalion under Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group (NAVELSG). NAVELSG provides expeditionary logistics capability for the Navy and joint service customers. (U.S. Navy photo by Seaman Mumbali G. Ngwa/Released)
