Soldiers breach first obstacle in 2014 Sapper Stakes

description

Summary

Sapper Stakes Soldiers push through in nonstandard Army Physical Fitness Test, the first event in the competition held between the two Theater Engineer Commands at Fort McCoy, Wis., May 5. The nonstandard APFT started with one Soldier from each team racing against other team competitors in the pushup and situp events, and a one-mile dash with an M16 and the combat Load Bearing Vest. At the finish line of the run, the Soldier swaps with his next team member handing off the weapon like a baton starting their turn for the event. After all team members have went through the event, the time is recorded. The team with the lowest time receives 50 points with every other place two points less. Teams who had members who couldn't complete an event were docked additional points, but allowed to continue in the event. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Roger Ashley)
