Soldiers of the 168th Engineer Brigade competed for the title of "Soldier of the Year" and "NCO of the Year" during the Mississippi National Guard's 2013 Best Warrior Competition, held Feb. 18-22 at Camp McCain, Miss. Spc. Michael J. Beeson, Biloxi, Miss., center right, of Headquarters Support Company, 890th Engineer Battalion, competed for "Soldier of the Year." Staff Sgt. Dennie A. Mason, Biloxi, Miss., center left, of Headquarters Support Company, 890th Engineer Battalion, competed for NCO of the Year. Also pictured is the leadership team of the 168th Engineer Brigade, Col. Joe Hargett, commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Jeff Riggs, senior enlisted adviser. Twelve soldiers faced a wide range of events designed to evaluate their Army aptitude. Events included a written test, Army Physical Fitness Test, M-4 rifle and M-9 pistol qualification, combat stress shoot, engagement skills trainer, land navigation, combative competition, obstacle course and Senior Noncommissioned Officer Interview Board.
