South Carolina National Guard honors Carolina Day on

description

Summary

South Carolina National Guard honors Carolina Day on Fort Moultrie, June 28, 2014, with Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston Jr., adjutant general for SCNG presenting the state flag to Guardsmen with exceptional service. Stephanie Smallwood, a intern with the national park service and a Civil War re-enactor, raised and lowered 46 S.C. state flags, one for each county, over Fort Moultrie, then Boy Scouts from Troop 502 and Troop 59 ceremonially folded each flag standing beside the grave of Col. Moultrie. "It was the S.C. militia that originally defended this state, this is a great way to honor the current militia, the South Carolina National Guard while remembering where it all began," said Don Campagna, a member on the Board of Directors for the Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie Historical Trust. "It was an honor to be part of Carolina Day when we recognized our heritage and the service of our Soldiers and Airmen in the SCNG and those who paid the ultimate price," said Livingston.
