The airport is the center of operations for forces that have arrived to recover the bodies of Texas Rep. George T. (Mickey) Leland and members of his delegation. A search was initiated after the plane transporting Leland and 15 other people was reported missing en route to a refugee camp near the Sudanese border. The efforts resulted in discovery of the downed aircraft on a remote mountainside
