Michael Messersmith, an M1 Abrams Tank Gunner with the 1st Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment out of Fort Riley, Kan., explains the capabilities of the M1 Abrams Tank to Vincent “B.J.” Lawrence, the Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., prior to a live-fire exercise at a firing range near Świętoszów. As commander of the VFW, Lawrence personally visited the soldiers of the 1-4 Cavalry while mobilized in an effort to better understand the training environment and living conditions of the troops stationed overseas in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
