Underway replenishment: Destroyer USS Strong is refueled
Summary
Underway replenishment: Destroyer USS Strong is refueled at sea. It’s a risky duty but a necessity for ships that travel great distances over the ocean. Replenishment can be during day or night. The ships come alongside and set the same speed, and maintain a distance of about 30 yards. A shot line is sent across to the receiving ship and from there the supply ship provides all lines and equipment needed for the transfer. Destroyer USS Strong (DD-758).
