U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Patrick E. McMahan, the 1st Platoon Commander for India Company, 3d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, receives the COVID-19 vaccination at U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa on Camp Foster, Jan. 12, 2021. This vaccine is designed to generate antibodies that help protect recipients against COVID-19 and combat the spread of the virus. Marines and Sailors voluntarily received the vaccination in order to help protect others and ensure 3d Marine Division remains ready to fight now. 3/8 is forward deployed in the Indo-Pacific with 4th Marines, 3d Marine Division. “Keeping up our combat effectiveness, being able and ready to fight tonight… we always got to be ready to go,” McMahan said when asked why he volunteered to receive the vaccine.
