Summary

The Coast Guard Cutter MORGENTHAU is named for Henry Morgenthau, Jr., Secretary of the Treasury from 1934 to 1945 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. MORGENTHAU, commissioned in 1969, is part of the 378-foot High Endurance Cutter class, the largest cutters, other than the polar class icebreakers, in operation in the last part of the 20th and first part of the 21st century. MORGENTHAU was active in the Vietnam War, and in 1977, became the first cutter to have women permanently assigned.
