Warrant Officer Class Two Nathan Cole supervises Sergeant

description

Summary

Warrant Officer Class Two Nathan Cole supervises Sergeant Ibrahim from the Afghan National Army on the aiming circle during Exercise Eagle's Flight at Patrol Base Sorkh Bid. The Afghan National Army’s (ANA) 4th Brigade are a step closer to deploying gun detachments outside Coalition Patrol Bases after a successful live fire artillery shoot during July. Exercise Eagle’s Flight showcased the improving capability of the 2nd Battery, or Canon Tolay, as they fired high explosive, smoke and illumination rounds onto a designated target area near Patrol Base Sorkh Bid, northern Kandahar. Despite using a manual prediction method, the ANA gunners have become competent in supporting maneuver elements, firing safely in the vicinity of Afghan civilians and helping defeat the insurgency. The Sorkh Bid live fire serial spanned two days and one night and followed successful validation using D30 122mm Howitzers.
