(April 1, 2015) -- A chief petty officer color guard presents the ensign while a formation of Navy Region Northwest chief petty officers observe colors in commemoration of the U.S. Navy's 122nd chief's birthday at Naval Base Kitsap - Bangor's Deterrent Park. The rank of chief petty officer was established April 1, 1893, and also requires board review for advancement unlike the junior enlisted ranks in the Navy.
