150825-N-PN275-167 U.S. NAVAL BASE GUAM (Aug. 25, 2015) – Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class Seth Fairfax fires the M500 shotgun while Gunner’s Mate Seaman Raymond Fonseca observes his accuracy during a small arms qualification course coordinated by the weapons department from the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39). Small arms training is vital to ensure Sailors are proficient in employing weapons and ready to implement anti-terrorism and force protection measures in response to aggression. Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th fleet areas of responsibility.
