160608-N-MM360-001 SILVERDALE, Wash. (June 8, 2016) Members of the Navy Region Northwest (NRNW) Crisis Action Team conduct a briefing in the NRNW Regional Operations Center while participating in the major earthquake exercise Cascadia Rising. Emergency responders and personnel from various federal, state, and local agencies across the Pacific Northwest participated in the emergency preparedness exercise, which was coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). The exercise simulated a 9.0-magnitude earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, requiring participants to test their ability to respond to such a wide-scale disaster. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was established in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service provides a connection between world media and the American military personnel serving at home and abroad. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens.
