WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (Sept. 4, 2016) An EA-18G Growler, from the “Shadowhawks” of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 141, performs a touch-and-go on the flight deck of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). A touch-and-go is performed whenever the tail hook misses the arresting gear cables, forcing the pilot to return to flight. Flight operations mark the embarkation of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 aircraft to Ronald Reagan for their routine patrol. Ronald Reagan and its embarked air wing, CVW-5, provide a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
