160915-N-YG104-003 PHILLIPINE SEA (Sept. 15, 2016) Boatswains Mate Senior Chief Ken Crowther and Boatswains Mate 2nd Class Jordan Ismael stand watch as the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) and the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) sail next to each other for fueling at sea (FAS) during Valiant Shield 2016. Valiant Shield 16 is a biennial, U.S.-only, field training exercise (FTX) with a focus of integration of joint training among U.S. forces. Curtis Wilbur, part of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is participating in Valiant Shield in an effort to increase naval integration and joint capabilities in the event of conflict, contingency, or disaster relief.
