Summary

171005-N-PG340-131 SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Oct. 5, 2017) – Michael Furlow, a civilian mariner, assigned to the Military Sealift Command's hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) shifts colors as the ship gets underway from Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ship arrived in San Juan to conduct a medical summit with key stakeholders to synchronize efforts before getting back underway. Additional mission assignments are expected to be scheduled based on assessments by Department of Defense, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Puerto Rico's Office of Emergency Management and will deply appropriately on a route to help those needing medical services. The DoD is supporting FEMA, the head federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort. The objects in this collection are from The U.S. National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.
