Summary
171025-N-TI567-011 STENNIS SPACE CENTER, Miss. -- An International Student participating in the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School's Technical Welding and Applied Repairs course practices oxyacetylene cutting and fusion techniques at NAVSCIATTS facilities on the John C. Stennis Space Center in south Mississippi.
NAVSCIATTS is utilizing TWAR, along with Patrol Craft Officer Course-Coastal, Outboard Motor Maintenance and Overhaul, International Technical Communications Course, International Small Arms Maintenance and the Strategic Leaders International Course, to train security forces from Chad, Niger and Cameroon in the inaugural Lake Chad Basin Initiative.
The students enrolled in this iteration are receiving training from the international schoolhouse focused on combatting trans-regional terrorism threats and furthering interoperability between partner nations.
While NAVSCIATTS courses are typically conducted in English and Spanish, Lake Chad Basin courses are being conducted in French, with translation support being provided by special operations forces from France, Canada and Belgium.
NAVSCIATTS is a Security Cooperation schoolhouse operating under United States Special Operations Command in support of Foreign Security Assistance and Geographic Combatant Commanders’ Theater Security Cooperation priorities. To date, the center has trained almost 12,000 security forces from 112 partner nations.
NAVSCIATTS trains and educates Partner Nation special operations forces, SOF-like forces and SOF enablers across the tactical, operational and strategic spectrums through in-residence and Mobile Training Team courses of instruction. (U.S. Navy photo by Angela Fry, NAVSCIATTS Public Affairs Office)
