180727-N-UX013-1241 RED SEA (July 27, 2018) Cmdr. John Hamilton, commanding officer of the guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109), gives direction on the bridge wing during the ship’s arrival to Safaga, Egypt, for preparations to exercise Eagle Salute 18. Eagle Salute 18 is a surface exercise with the Egyptian Naval Force conducted to enhance interoperability and war-fighting readiness, fortify military-to-military relationships and advance operational capabilities of all participating units. Jason Dunham is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
