190225-M-YD783-1067 KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN (Feb. 25, 2019) U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Jerett Fazendine, left, and Capt. Jason Granzella, both with Marine Attack Squadron 231, cut a cake cutting ceremony celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Marine Attack Squadron 231 in the Khalifa Bin Salamn Port, Kingdom of Bahrain. The Squadron is known as the “Ace of Spades” and consist of 18 AV-8B Harrier jets. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
